In Iwanuma, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, NISHIKIYA KITCHEN has built its reputation on a simple yet ambitious idea: making the world's great cuisines accessible to everyone, without compromising on flavour or quality.

The story began in 1939, when the company’s founder established a business producing tsukudani, traditional Japanese foods simmered in soy sauce and other seasonings. In 1975, the company embraced retort pouch technology, beginning a new chapter that would eventually transform it into a specialist in premium ready-to-eat meals. Today, NISHIKIYA KITCHEN manufactures all its retort products in-house, combining decades of technical expertise with a passion for exceptional food.

For NISHIKIYA KITCHEN, convenience should never mean sacrificing quality. Every recipe begins with carefully selected ingredients, from spices and seasonings to the water used in cooking. The company uses carefully filtered water sourced from the Zao and Kōshiasahidake mountain ranges, along with selected salts chosen to complement each dish. When an ingredient cannot be found locally, the team looks for ways to grow or produce it themselves. For its Indian-inspired recipes, for example, NISHIKIYA KITCHEN collaborated with local farmers over several years to cultivate fresh curry leaves and develop a reliable supply of paneer.

This philosophy is reflected in the company’s extensive collection of more than 100 prepared meals, including curries, soups, and other dishes inspired by cuisines around the world. By focusing on ingredients rather than relying on food additives, NISHIKIYA KITCHEN strives to bring out the natural character of every recipe.

The company calls its retort pouch a “little pressure cooker”, a technology that makes it possible to enjoy carefully prepared dishes with just a few minutes of heating.
